Williams-Sonoma is torturing me again...

I've had my KitchenAid, Ms. Empire Red, for 4 1/2 years. I've never seen another color that I liked more or another mixer as pretty. Sure, there are some amazing colors and I think they'd be perfect for other people (like the green apple- I wish I was that girl), but the Empire Red is the one for me. And like a lot of people, I'm madly in love with my mixer. I almost named this blog "KitchenAiding and Abetting". If it ever dies I'll buy a new one THAT day. I'd probably wake my son up from his nap to go get a new one, and there aren't many things I'd do that for.

Walking through the mall Tuesday, I peeked longingly into the Williams-Sonoma window, thinking about the little tiny cookies scoop I'm dying to buy (but not to pay $25 for) and I stopped dead in my tracks. No kidding, it was the most beautiful KitchenAid I've ever seen- the exclusive 90th anniversary edition. It's a shimmery, shiny rich red- my favorite color. It's the color of my favorite shoes (the high heels I've somehow stopped wearing almost every week to Church while I'm so pregnant), my favorite lip gloss ("Siren"), my favorite toe nail polish ("I'm not really a waitress"), my favorite German cars. It has a shiny glass bowl that I didn't realize I needed. It's gorgeous, it's useful, it's easy to clean, it's hard working, it's durable.

I don't know why Williams-Sonoma is always doing this to me, making me lust after things I don't even need. But if you need a KitchenAid (and unless there's one sitting on your counter, trust me, you do)- go get this one. I'd say I'll get it when mine dies, but Dorie says in her book that the one she got for her wedding is still going strong. I'm thinking if Dorie's never dies, mine never will. That's a good thing, but it does make it hard to justify this purchase! Now go to the mall and look at this beauty. It's much prettier in real life, if you can believe that. I'm going to go try to convince my mom she needs this, because she probably won't mind if I sit around and stare at it all day as much as the people at Williams-Sonoma would. But I'm thinking they'll get used to that if they keep this in the front window for too long...

  1. I'm with you, Anne! That darn Williams-Sonoma is dangerous! I love the store but try to stay out of it since I can be an impulse buyer. I had the pleasure of meeting Chuck Williams at a store opening many years ago,and had him sign a cookbook. What a kind, down-to-earth man! Oh, and I love my pink KitchenAid mixer! And her brother, the pink food processor, and little sister, the pink blender! I couldn't do without them. Well, maybe I could but I don't want to!

  3. You know, you just might need an extra one! You never know when the day will come when you have to make 2 separate batches of cookies at the SAME time! Or making frosting in one and a cake in the other! :)

And I totally agree with you, I would sleep with my KitchenAid if I could, but my husband gets grumpy when I try. And mine is shiny black onyx.

  4. Oh, what a lovely KA, but I am not with you about the car. Your favourite German car looks better in this colour:

It perfectly fits under my a%& :-)

And I must have this KA bowl

  6. I agree with you, it's beautiful! When I bought mine for myself last Christmas ;) I opted for a silver one, looks like stainless steel. Goes great with my appliances. It wasn't as much as this one though! Love the glass bowl too. maybe someday you'll have it :)

  7. I totally agree! That red mixer is totally calling my name. My kitchen aid is great (silver) and will probably never die either, but if it does, I am running to the store to get this one too!

  8. I adore walking around Williams-Sonoma; I don't need a new mixer, but there are always about 10 other little things I would love to buy. Oh well, Christmas is coming- and my birthday.

  9. I. Want. This.

I won't even go in that place. The last time I did, I went a little crazy. And the time before that. I'm so glad they last forever, but it is a little frustrating when you want a new one and you know yours will never die. When I watch Ina, I notice that she must also be using her first one in a lot of the shows because the speed numbers on the side seem to be worn off. And she tests recipes and uses hers more than I ever will. There's no hope of mine dying so I can get this sweet new one.

  10. Ugh! I know! I saw this in the latest catalog and was coveting it immediately. I think it's just gorgeous. My current one is black, and it's probably almost 10 years old. Someday...I will get a new one! I would love this one, though.

  13. Awesome mixer bowl! My mom got her first Kitchen Aid not long after they were married and it lasted about 40 years! (Sorry to say. jk) It was actually still grinding away, but just didn't sound good. It need to go. Hers was the lovely pea green soup color! We bought her a nice, new white one.
