TWD- White Chocolate Raspberry Bread Pudding

It's Tuesday again and I'm not quite sure how it snuck up on me so quickly! I've been sick again all week and last night I was laying in bed writing my "sorry, no bread pudding post" mentally when I decided I would just suck it up and make it tomorrow anyways. Well, I'm sure glad I did.

Since my tall man can't have chocolate but can eat white chocolate (I think we need Alton Brown to explain that, he'd do a much better job) I subbed white chocolate in without looking back. I used a whole loaf of day old french bread (16 ounces instead of just 12) and had just the right amount of bread to custard. I also used 2 percent milk since that's what we keep on hand (no excuse for whole milk any more since my baby is 2 now!) I added some frozen raspberries for color last minute and they provided the perfect burst of flavor and freshness. And, I added a squirt of vanilla to the custard just to be safe. I've never regretted extra vanilla. I feel the same way about whipped cream, too- so I served this with heaping dollops of cream melting on top.

This was delicious, easy... and all gone in a few minutes. I'm glad I had guest tasters in the kitchen to keep me from eating it all in a frenzied, starving pregnant moment (you know what I'm talking about... when you get hungry when your pregnant, it hits suddenly and massively!) Thanks for the fun choice, Lauren. Make sure to get the recipe on her blog (or here) and make this for yourself. With any variation it would be a winner. And while you're here, please leave a comment with any suggestions on boosting your immune system. I've been so sick this pregnancy (with non pregnancy stuff) that I'm afraid to even look at raw cookie dough for fear of salmonella!

Great work, girile! I remember that pregnancy hunger. I mean everything taste so good and you have to eat like you have not had food in ages! You eat and be merry. Okay, suggestion on immune system, take the Vitamin C (in any shape or form) a few hours before you go to sleep. This way it has a chance to be broken down and used while your body is repairing itself while you sleep. This is what I have read in the past anyway! Great going girl!

Oh now THIS version might work for me. I just had the hardest time with the chocolate in the bread pudding - it just didn't feel RIGHT and I wound up giving away the rest. Me ... who loves chocolate!

But white chocolate and raspberries? I could try that - or with strawberries. Thanks for posting the varation!

Ugh - so sorry that you've been sick! I've got nothing for you on boosting the immune system - I felt like I was always sick when I was pregnant with E and C [I blamed it on having germy little people in the house :-)] Hope you start feeling better soon now that we are getting out of cold/flu season! Your bread pudding looks great! I SO wish that I thought to make this with white chocolate so my hubs could eat it. I just can't seem to think outside the box :-) Next time, I am going to try your version - it looks fabulous, especially with the raspberries!

Brilliant idea.

Great idea with the white chocolate bread pudding! My brother is the same way--no chocolate but white chocolate is okay, and it can certainly be hard to find suitable substitutions! Feel better!

Okay, I think this looks so beautiful and delicious. I am NOT a chocolate fan, and white chocolate isn't really chocolate, but it never did much for me, until I saw this...and I am thinking...JUST MAYBE! Very nice!

Oh, Anne. I'm so sorry you've been so sick! Are you taking lots of Vitamin C? Tons of vitamins, etc. I know echinacea is good too. Hope you're feeling better soon, I'll say an extra prayer for you tonight!

Wow! Talk about a makeover! Even though we loved the chocolate version, I want to try this...I bet the white chocolate and raspberries were perfect together. I love Dorie!

Wow - it looks beautiful.

I'll bet your husband can't tolerate the chocolate liquer that is absent in white chocolate. Hey, I'm no Alton Brown but that's the only difference that I see!

White chocolate raspberry bread pudding sounds wonderful. I'm glad it was a success for you.

Absolutely beautiful...I believe the reason for white chocolate over chocolate (if I'm remembering Alton's comment from the Chocolate Iron Chef America challenge) is that white chocolate is not a true chocolate....now, he'll have to explain what a true chocolate is!!! ;-)

Beautiful! I love anything raspberry.

Your version looks so good! Well I don't really know much about the immune system, but what about yogurt? I always feel like I'm doing something really good for my body when I eat yogurt.
